Cities are the scale of tackling many societal issues, especially environmental issues. That is why measurements of sustainability are imposed in metropolitan areas to get their act together. As a result, there are many initiatives happening at the local urban scales. The Brussels Sustainable City maps local initiatives along the following themes: sustainable building, sustainable neighbourhoods, sustainable consumption, sustainable economy, mobility and reducing pollution. This way such examples can be as guidance to improve the quality of life in other European cities.
It is managed by the Brussels Environment in collaboration with other regional, para-regional, Community organisations, institutions, and associations.
