In September and October, Herman Weeda (JAM Visual Thinking) and Charlot Schans (Pakhuis de Zwijger) were in Quito (Ecuador) to connect City Makers towards the Habitat III Conference. Twenty inspiring events were organised during Fabrica Ciudad, the temporary City Embassy initiated by Pakhuis de Zwijger, in collaboration with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Herman and Charlot teamed up with an ambitious group of students of PUCE University, to interview City Makers and visualize their amazing stories.
At the same moment, the Human Cities Coalition was working on Ruta de la Experiencia, to showcase the people-centered approach of the public-private partnership, which aimed to rejuvenate the streets around Fabrica Ciudad with smart lighting, street furniture, new coloured facades and streets, a vertical garden, bike parking and lots of fresh green.
Together we wanted to show the world that a more collaborative approach is crucial towards the New Urban Agenda, which was adopted in Quito on October 20. We strongly advocated for this goal because we believe that livable, inclusive, prosperous and sustainable cities are a result of the joint efforts between civil society organisations, public authorities, knowledge institutions, pioneering City Makers and businesses.
