The initiators of Markthalle Neun transformed a covered market hall in Kreuzberg that remained unused for decades, into a heaven for ‘foodies’. The 120 year old piece of heritage turns into and a lively week market on Friday’s and Saturday’s and houses ‘Street Food Thursdays’. It includes a glass bakery, fish and meat butcher, microbrewery and a canteen with freshly prepared food. With the market they want to raise awareness for good food, through offering quality products that are preferably regional and seasonal. Markthalle Neun is also open to initiatives from Kreuzberg residents and aims to fulfil a role as a local platform
They host a variety of events and act as a community anchor functioning in a horizontal manner an opening the space for all. Their goal is to offer a new approach to alternative healthy foods within an urban space.
