The Bromley by Bow Centre  in east London has been supporting residents since the 80’s and has grown into a stellar example of bringing economic development to deprived communities.

When the community’s church  in Bromley by Bow faced ever declining member numbers, it decided to widen its activities and began supporting the community by backing people, their ideas and their passions.

We have grown to become a very complex organisation, running a huge range of projects across different sites, by ourselves and in partnership with others. We work with over 2,000 people each month, and our services are tailored to the needs of the whole community – families, young people, vulnerable adults and elders.

Today, the Bromley by Bow Centre does so in four ways:

  • By supporting people to overcome chronic illness and unhealthy lifestyles
  • Enabling people to learn new skills
  • Supporting people to become less grant dependent and to find work
  • Providing tools to create an enterprising community

In essence, the Bromley by Bow Centre provides a dynamic model of community regeneration based on the belief in the capacity, creativity, and entrepreneurship of people.
