City Makers from seven inspiring European community-driven and cooperative urban development projects meet in ZoHo Rotterdam on February 19 and 20th. Their meeting marks the kick-off of the European re:Kreators network. AIR and Stipo invite Rotterdam City Makers to meet and exchange with this network in a merry carrousel of exchange between practices.
re:Kreators is an international network, that connects new practices of city making and area development, in order to learn from each other and to strengthen the position of these emerging practices. The network connects the Rotterdam ZoHo area, in which Stipo has an important role, and Amsterdam based Pakhuis de Zwijger and its European platform New Europe – Cities in Transition to community-driven projects throughout Europe. The launch of the network brings to Rotterdam the key figures from:
- Holzmarkt in Berlin
- Shuffle (East London Community Land Trust) in London
- Lakatlan (KÉK Contemporary Architecture Centre) in Budapest
- Darwin Écosytème in Bordeaux
- Make a Point in Bucharest
- PB43 in Copenhagen
AIR and Stipo invite the Rotterdam networks and community of City Makers in the conference programme to get acquainted with these practices. We will start the evening with a short series of pitches, inviting the practices to present themselves. They will share their motives and philosophies giving their practice direction, the economic models underpinning the creation and exchange of values in their projects, the organizational form they chose or develop, the connectivity with formal institutions, neighbourhood actors and civic agents, their spatial tactics, and the process of learning by doing, trial and error in relation to their long term dreams and visions.
After the pitches, we invite the Rotterdam practices to a Carrousel of conversations with the European practices. In two rounds we will delve deeper into shared questions, fascinations and experiences. The tables are moderated lightly by the hosts of the network. After these two rounds there will be drinks and the opportunity to continue talks at the bar.
Patrick van der Klooster (director AIR Foundation) will be the host of the evening.
