City Makers Summit in Athens, 2017

Save the date! The second City Makers Summit will be held on May 17-21, 2017

Over the past couple of years, the City Makers movement has been taking off. You find City Makers everywhere, people who singlehandedly initiate change in their urban surroundings and contribute to the public cause. Citizens in different countries and contexts are inspired, either out of dissatisfaction or a strong believe in local social innovation, to take ownership over the liveability of their neighbourhoods and cities. This is a shift taking place all across Europe as was demonstrated during the first City Makers Summit on May 27-30, 2016 in Amsterdam.

The Dutch Presidency of the EU, the first half of 2016, brought representatives of governments, institutions and companies from across Europe to The Netherlands and to Amsterdam specifically. To give the bottom-up urban innovators, the City Makers, a voice in the development of the Urban Agenda for the EU, The Pact of Amsterdam, we organised the New Europe City Makers Summit (27-30 May). After the Pre-Summit (4 and 5 February), the Summit was the most important moment of meeting for City Makers from all over Europe, of whom 600 came from 150 cities to Amsterdam for the four-day conference. Find an overview of these four days here.

City Makers Summit in Athens, May 17-21, 2017

On May 17-21, 2017 we continue to consolidate the network and build on our joint achievements of the City Makers Summit in May 2016. An update will follow soon as the programme develops and registrations open. In the mean time, get inspired by the Athens homepage, read more about the Pact of Amsterdam and the (Im)pact of Amsterdam, find out who the 600 City Makers present at the Summit were and get an impression of how we plan to continue the European City Makers movement.
